Habit #1: Prayer + Breakfast

Life is turbulent, and in times of confusion, it is helpful to have habits that anchor a routine and give a structure for support. I wanted to write a series of articles about habits I have found helpful for grounding me in the midst of busyness, stress, sorrow, and joys too.

The first habit is starting the day in prayer. I love to wake up early in the morning and enjoy the quiet. It is the perfect time to bring myself and my day to God and get centered before life gets loud and busy. Right now, I pray a prayer called The Surrender Novena (highly recommend: https://media.ascensionpress.com/2019/08/01/want-a-deeper-surrender-let-it-go-with-this-novena/), read a bit of the Bible and a devotional, and journal.

If you are not in a place where you love or believe in Jesus, I still recommend making morning silence a habit. Being still, meditating, keeping a gratitude journal, or making another practice that helps you get centered is beneficial. I do hope you love Jesus some day though! He really loves you!

The other habit I pair with morning prayer is breakfast. I always wake up hungry and excited for breakfast. I have an article about building a high quallity breakfast, which I recommend (check it out: https://chelstrainer.wixsite.com/chelstrainer/post/building-a-high-quality-breakfast), but eating something that involves whole foods, protein, and maybe some coffee is a good way to set yourself up for success. Breakfast can help you stabilize appetite, wake you up, and fuel you for morning activity.

So, maybe life is great right now, or maybe it's hell on earth, or maybe somewhere in the middle. You made it to today, and that is a gift! Start the morning by taking care of yourself and make it a habit. It's good that you are here, so enjoy your coffee and get ready to start the day.
